cbs4denver.com - Church: Haggard Admitted To Some Indiscretions

cbs4denver.com - Church: Haggard Admitted To Some Indiscretions: "The president of the National Association of Evangelicals -- an outspoken opponent of gay marriage and a man who has boasted of having access to White House advisers -- has given up the post after allegations he had a sexual relationship with a gay man.

The Rev. Ted Haggard resigned as president of the 30 million-member association Thursday after being accused of paying a man for sex in monthly trysts over the past three years."

People make lousy gods. I don't know if these allocations are true. I don't care. I hate that this will give people an excuse for not believing in God or Jesus. I hate that it will be used to bash Christians. At the same time, we all need to know that we all fall far short of God's glory and require his grace and mercy. Please pray for Mr. Haggard.

TMX Elmo - The Toy for Christmas

TMX Elmo - The Toy for Christmas: "The great part is TMX Elmo is very funny. There must be some computer technology in there because he doesn’t seem to just repeat the same thing over and over, or maybe I didn’t play with it enough. Either way, TMX Elmo is very animated. TMX Elmo is the next level of Tickle Me Elmo that has been so popular."

Journal Gazette | 05/22/2006 | Fix identity theft as if it’s a 2nd job

Journal Gazette | 05/22/2006 | Fix identity theft as if it’s a 2nd job:
"But it turns out I’m not alone. Stolen or lost checkbooks, credit cards and wallets are the most common causes of identity theft, making up 30 percent of cases, according to a recent study by Javelin Strategy & Research and the Better Business Bureau. That’s a lot more than the 8 percent stemming from tech-savvy strangers gaining access to our personal computers.

How did check fraud happen to me? I’m still not quite sure, but I somehow lost an old checkbook from an account I’d closed more than year earlier. It made its way into the hands of Jersey Chick (who could be a dude for all I know. But I’m going with chick – the handwriting was kind of girlie and loopy)."

"Identity theft is so easy we are told. Destroy personal bills, cut-up credit cards, only give your personal details to valid agencies. don't trust e-mailed requests for identity details. etc. But then what defences do we have against the state when its agencies steal our identity? The UK Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)has done exactly that to over 2,700 people.

It appeared to have their details on its database and listed them as having criminal convictions. When they applied for jobs which required a CRB identity check on applicants they were turned down because the CRB said they had criminal records. Actually they were records of other people but the idiotic systems and processes at the CRB confused them with innocent job applicants for childrens' charity positions and such like."

CNN.com - Identity Theft: How to Rob a Bank - May 16, 2006:
"If Bonnie and Clyde were alive today, they would not be using guns for their heists. Instead, they would probably use stolen identities -- the modern method for looting bank accounts, laundering checks and defrauding credit card companies. Drawing on documents from criminal cases, surveillance tapes and immigration records, as well as interviews with law enforcement agents, victims and criminals, CNN Presents goes inside the murky world of identity theft to expose what the bandits do after stealing identities."

According to authorities Nance’s the theft ring would steal bank and credit card statements from mailboxes, take old job applications from businesses and then print new checks with the stolen information."

commercialappeal.com - Memphis, TN: Bartlett

commercialappeal.com - Memphis, TN: Bartlett: "Almost two years after enduring someone stealing her wallet, the nightmare for a 33-year-old woman resurrected last month.

The victim thought after someone initially used her credit cards following an August 2004 theft that she had covered all her bases, calling banks, credit bureaus and canceling her cards.

But two weeks ago, she discovered an array of credit cards recently issued in her name, leading her and authorities to believe someone may have waited months to use her stolen identity.

"We can only assume that's how they got it," said the victim, referring to the theft from her car parked in a gated driveway near Germantown. "We don't know of any other way they could have gotten my information."

Tallahassee Democrat - www.tallahassee.com - Tallahassee, FL.:
"Michael and Lynn Troelstrup were unpleasantly surprised when the IRS bounced back their income-tax return, saying the couple had already received their refund.

How could the state cop and his wife have filed their 1040 before the state even sent out the annual earnings statements in January? Why was it an individual return, rather than a joint one? And nobody forgets getting a refund."

Oh, and don't be surprised if these people have trouble with the IRS over this too. How is an individual to deal with all this? Pre-paid Legal has the solution. For only $36/month you can protect your family from this sort of stuff and may other problems that come our way.

Charlotte Observer 05/17/2006 Dim future for red-light cameras:
"The N.C. Court of Appeals undercut the automated traffic cops on Tuesday, ruling that the state constitution requires cities to give 90 percent of every ticket to local school systems.
That's a problem for the cities, who pay most of the money they receive to the companies who operate the cameras. In Charlotte, for example, the contractor gets $35 from every $50 ticket issued by the city's 22 red-light cameras."

It's about time.

Watch out for medical identity theft - baltimoresun.com:
"We shred our papers and delete anything 'phishy' to prevent thieves from posing as us and stealing our money. Now there's a new twist to watch out for -- medical identity theft.

This is when thieves use your name or insurance information to get medical treatment. Or, they might use it to buy prescription drugs or get reimbursed by insurance companies for services you never received.

That's not the worst of it. False entries on health care records mean you could end up being treated based on someone else's medical history, says Pam Dixon, executive director of the World Privacy Forum."
