Thank you Ron!
Ron's Original Letter to me.
Hi Ron,
First I must state that I am a terrible communicator! I get myself in trouble with my wife at least once a week for saying something that upsets her. 90-99% of the time I'm agreeing with or at on her side, but my choice of words, or as she puts it: "What I really meant was ...(something completely different)".
I don’t believe in “thumping” The Bible, but I do believe the English version of The Bible is the translated Word of God. I’m also not a theologian, but I have done a little research on my own to answer many of my own questions. I am not an expert on ANY subject in The Bible, but just as my business clients depend on my expertise in business to provide them with good and accurate information; I to depend largely on my spiritual leaders for my guidance and knowledge in spiritual matters.
So with all the legal disclaimers out of the way… : )
The main point I wanted to make in my post was that I’m tired of our government trying to socially engineer our society through discriminating laws. That is how we get into these messes. This person or this group has this privilege (or lack of privilege) because of race, religion, sex, sexual orientation and coming soon weight!
When it comes to legal and governmental issues; I think citizens should be able to enter contracts that grant rights and privileges to another base on the criteria they set forth. Again, that is the legal stuff. But marriage is something else. The word marriage, like just about every other word in our language, has been over used and abused. It is almost meaningless as it was originally intended anyway. At its core, a marriage is the joining of a man and woman in the Eyes of God as one flesh. All the other stuff associated with marriage is crap that has been heaped on by man. I do not believe that same sex marriages/unions or whatever it’s labeled is the greatest threat to marriage. Divorce is the greatest threat to marriage. I am much more concerned with divorce and its affect on our society and God’s Judgment then same sex anything.
I do not, and pray that I never do, hold myself and my relationship with God above you or any other person. I have sinned, and recently I might add. If your greatest sin is being homosexual; then my brother you are closer to sainthood then I am! Yes, sins are “ranked” there are many Bible versus that show that directly and indirectly. Yet, the most important thing to know about sin is that God can have nothing to do with it. Everyone is a sinner. This too is stated often in The Bible. One reference I like to use for this fact is Romans 3:23, but it helps to read versus 22-24. So that means that you, I, the Pope, Gandi, Hitler and everyone else is in the same sinking boat. Anyone that thinks they can work (do good things) to improve their changes of getting into heaven is just fooling himself or herself. Seriously, what could anyone do to impress the Creator? This is why God made the ultimate sacrifice for us, because there is nothing we could do for ourselves.
How does homosexuality or same sex marriages affect my life? In the grander scale, the sooner we push God’s patience to its limit the sooner it’s all over, but then that day and time is already set. As for the here and now, God has told me that homosexuality is wrong and that I must resist what is wrong and standup for Truth.
Ron, do you believe in God? If so, what is the basis for your belief? What supports it? If you do not believe in God; why not? What supports that belief? Or what do you think is lacking in the way of proof of God’s existence?
Thankfully,
Frank
